Blendtopia Products Recalled Due to Listeria: 30,000 Cases of their 7 Ounce Smoothie Blends

Blendtopia Products, LLC is recalling almost 30,000 cases of their Blendtopia Superfood Smoothie Kits for the likelihood of contamination of Listeria monocytogenes. This massive recall affects the seven-ounce smoothie blend with the “Best by” dates of July 2021, October 2021, and November 2021 and includes the “Glow,” “Detox,” Energy,” and “Immunity,” and “Strength” smoothie blends.

These smoothie blend kits were distributed throughout the nation to various retailers as well as sold online. The corporation, Blendtopia, believes the Listeria contamination is isolated and was detected during routine safety inspections. However, the entire production has been recalled as a safeguard for the consumer and with complete participation with the U.S. Food and Drug Admin (FDA).

There are no reports of illness from consumption of the smoothies as of February 10th, 2020. Customers who have purchased any of the recalled smoothie kits are urged to dispose of the product or return them to the place of purchase for a refund.

Listeriosis is the infection caused from ingesting listeria monocytogenes bacteria and is especially concerning in women who are pregnant, children, and the elderly as well as those with a compromised immune system. Listeriosis usually presents itself with symptoms similar to other foodborne illnesses: fever and diarrhea. However, it is particularly hard to diagnosis and can become life threatening if the infectious bacteria spread beyond the gut. Prevention of serious illness is completed by awareness of current recalls and contacting a health professional when there is concern of exposure.
