Tesoros Trading Company Recalls Trader Joe’s Edamame Due to a Possible Listeria Monocytogenes Contamination

On December 16, 2020, Tesoros Trading Company, Las Vegas, NV, recalled certain frozen Trader Joe’s Lightly Salted Edamame because of a possible contamination of Listeria Monocytogenes. The product that was recalled was sold at Trader Joe’s stores in Arizona, Southern California, Southern Nevada, and Utah. The product is packaged in a 16 ounce package that is stamped with the following lot numbers: 22LA102 M or 22LA102 N or 22LA102 P or 22LA080 B. There may be one more lot number added to that list. Tesoros Trading Company has removed from sale and destroyed all affected products. Customers who have bought any of the listed products should return it for a full refund.

According to the FDA, Listeria is most serious, and may be fatal, for young children, frail and elderly, and those with a weak immune system. Healthy people may still suffer such symptoms as high fevers, severe headaches, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea. The CDC explains that pregnant women may only get flu-like symptoms from a Listeria infection, but that the infection could cause miscarraige, stillbirth, premature delivery, or life-threatening infection of the newborn. The CDC goes on to explain that people with invasive Listeriosis usually begin experiencing symptoms between 1 and 4 weeks after consuming a food contaminated by Listeria.

As stated by a Listeria Lawyer from Ron Simon & Associates:

“Listeria monocytogenes is found in food, soil and water, but nearly all medical authorities agree that over 99% of the identified victims of Listeriosis acquire it from eating food that has become contaminated wit Listeria. Animals (and humans) can carry the bacterium without appearing ill and can contaminate foods such as meats and dairy products. Cross contamination can lead to the contamination of fruits and vegetables, ice cream, and other products. The bacterium has been found in a variety of raw foods, such as uncooked meats and vegetables…”

As the holiday season unfolds, it is more important than ever for consumers to pay attention to the food they eat, and where it comes from. Careful attention to such things can help to keep their families safe and healthy.
