Prairie City Bakery’s Ooey Gooey Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip Butter Cake is Recalled as Part the Jif Salmonella Outbreak Expands On the 8th of June, 2022, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced Prairie City Bakery’s voluntary recall of their Ooey Gooey Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip Butter Cake. The Vernon Hills, IL based bakery made this announcement regarding their Butter Cake due to the product containing the recently recalled J.M. Smucker Jif® Peanut Butter, which was found to be connected with a multistate Salmonella outbreak. According to Prairie City Bakery , as many as 50,220 potentially contaminated products were distributed to retailers in 2 oz. 10 packs with the UPC number of 7-97884-36719-9. The Prairie City Bakery Butter Cakes were also sold in 2 oz. individually wrapped units, with the UPC number of 7-97884-36718-2. According to one National Food Poisoning Lawyer, who represents a large number of the Jif Peanut Butter Salmonella Outbreak victims, Ron Simon, “Salmonella are bacteria which can cause moderate to severe gastrointestinal illness, inflicting symptoms such as diarrhea, stomach cramps, and fever. While most people are able to recover from Salmonella infection without complications, it can pose a particular danger to infants, elderly people, and anyone with otherwise weakened immune systems. Some people who contract a serious case of Salmonella infection require antibiotic treatment.” Ron Simon, who filed the nation’s first Jif Peanut Butter Salmonella Outbreak lawsuit just over a week ago, added “people who think they have been sickened by Jif Peanut Butter should get a stool culture from their primary care physician, and urgent care center, or their local health department.” Customers who are experiencing the prior-listed symptoms after consumption of Prairie City Bakery’s Butter Cake should contact their personal health care provider and alert their public health officials as soon as possible. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has reported that, as of June 8th, 2022, no illnesses have been reported, to date, related to Prairie City Bakery’s Recalled Butter Cake. Individuals who purchased and/or are in possession of Prairie City Bakery’s Ooey Gooey Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip Butter Cake are strongly encouraged to discard the product or return to the location of purchase for a full refund. Customers with questions, comments or concerns are encouraged to contact Prairie City Bakery at 800-338-5122 or visit their website for more information.
