At 5:30 PM on September 19th, 2023, the Kraft Heinz Company publicized their voluntary recall of Kraft Singles American Processed Cheese Slices due to a packaging issue. This malfunction was discovered after multiple customers reported having choked or gagged on film while consuming Kraft Singles American Processed Cheese Slices.

The Kraft Heinz Company shared that approximately 83,800 individually-packaged cases of their Kraft Singles American Processed Cheese Slices have been recalled, and taken off the shelves of their usual retailers. In their recall publication, Kraft Heinz shared that, “…the issue was discovered after we received several consumer complaints about finding the plastic stuck to a slice, including six complaints of consumers saying they choked or gagged in connection with the issue. No injuries or serious health issues have been reported.” The Kraft Singles American Processed Cheese affected are 16 ounces in weight, with a UPC Code of 0 2100061526 1. The affected product has a Best When Used By date between January 9th, 2024 to January 13th, 2024. It contains a UPC Code of  0 2100060491 3.

While several complaints were filed against Kraft Heinz for the discovery of plastic on the cheese, along with six confirmed cases of choking or gagging, no deaths or serious illness has been reported.
