The Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) has confirmed a report that at least 30 cases of salmonella food poisoning in Dalhart, TX, originated at the X-10 Woodfire Steakhouse. The Dalhart restaurant, located in the far North-West of Texas close to the border to New Mexico, was closed to allow the investigation to continue, to clean and sanitize the restaurant, and to clear employees to return to work. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) there are 37 confirmed cases of Listeria illness in 12 states and Canada, all linked to the Bidart Apples used to make caramel apples and sold during the holiday season late in 2014. According to the Texas Department of Health Services (TDHS), an investigation into about 12 cases of salmonella is being undertaken in Dallam and Hartley counties, both located in the Texas Panhandle, in the northwest corner of Texas on the New Mexico and Oklahoma borders. The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) has long sought to decrease the occurrence of food borne illness from two of the most common pathogens found in poultry, salmonella and campylobacter. These pathogens, both bacterial, are often found in uncooked or undercooked poultry, including butchered and ground turkey and chicken.
