Blendtopia Products LLC Announces Recall on Frozen Smoothie Products Due to Possible Listeria Monocytogene Contamination
On January 10, 2020, Blendtopia LLC and the Food and Drug Administration announced a voluntary recall on 29,078 cases of 7 oz. frozen Blendtopia brand Superfood Smoothie Kits due to possible contamination of Listeria monocytogenes.
The contamination was first discovered through the process of a routine food safety test. The contamination is believed to be caused through a single supplied ingredient. To date there have been no recorded illnesses linked to the consumption of these products.
In an abundance of caution Blendtopia LLC and the FDA have recalled all possibly affected products. These include Blendtopia’s brand “Glow”, “Detox”, “Energy”, “Immunity” and “Strength” Superfood Smoothie Kits. All the products included in the recall bear the “Best By” date of July 2021, October 2021, or November 2021. These products were shipped nationwide and are presumably sold at select grocery stores and online stores.
No other products produced by Blendtopia Products LLC are affected by this recall.
Listeria monocytogenes are a type of bacteria which can cause a mild to severe gastrointestinal illness known as Listeriosis, depending on the health of the individual. Those with compromised immune systems such as elderly, young, expectant, or ill persons are at a greater risk for a more severe onset of Listeriosis and possible complications. Listeriosis usually presents itself through symptoms such as headache, stiff neck, dizziness, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. Listeriosis poses a particular threat to expectant mothers as the infection can spread beyond the gut and lead to stillbirth or miscarriages.
Tiffany Taylor, the founder of Blendtopia LLC, assured consumers that “Food safety is our highest priority, and we’re committed to assuring consumers can have full confidence in our products”.
Blendtopia LLC and the FDA urge anyone in possession of these products to either discard or return them to their original place of purchase.
