Enoki King Mushrooms Recalled After Listeria Testing Reveals Pathogen’s Presence

Enoki King Mushroom Farm has issued a recall of their Enoki Mushrooms due to concerns that the produce may be contaminated with Listeria Monocytogenes.

On October 11, the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) published a notice, describing the recalled Enoki Mushrooms product.

The recalled Enoki Mushroom Farm’s recalled products have a lot code of 4877, and a UPC code of 860011505600. The products are packaged in clear plastic, weighing 5.3 oz.

Listeria currently poses a threat to Enoki Mushrooms consumers because it is “an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Although healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women,” the FDA described in a press release.

One National Food Poisoning Lawyer, Dr. Tony Coveny, commented on the Listeria factor in this recall, advising “If you are diagnosed with listeriosis and are an otherwise healthy adult, you may not need any special treatment, since the symptoms will disappear on their own within a few weeks. However, if you are pregnant, it’s critical to work with your healthcare provider to keep the baby healthy. Fortunately, babies who are sick with listeriosis can receive the same antibiotics as adults. In the event you or your child contracted listeria, a listeria attorney can help you recover damages if your illness was the result of another party’s negligence, such as a restaurant or food manufacturer.”

While no individuals have had confirmed illnesses caused by the Enoki Mushrooms Listeria contamination, individuals who have consumed the recalled product and are experiencing the afore-listed symptoms should be prompt in contacting one’s healthcare provider.

If in possession of the product, customers may either return it to the location of purchase or discard it.
