List of ice cream bars recalled for possible listeria monocytognees expanded.

The brands and stores impacted by the recall of Fieldbrook Foods ice cream bars now includes a long list that of products that were made at the company’s Dunkirk, New York, plant in 2017. Testing has found listeria monocytognees in ice cream bar samples from this production line. The listeria monocytogenes bacteria is a pathogenic bacteria that can cause serious illness and death, even in the smallest amounts that may be found in food products.

The FDA has expanded the list of stores where the ice cream bars were sold to now include: ACME, ALDI, Amigo in Puerto Rico, Bi Lo, BJ’s, Demoulas, Dillon, Dollar Tree, Econo (Puerto Rico), Food 4 Less, Fred Meyer, Frys, Giant, Giant Eagle, Harveys, Jewel, King Soopers, Kroger, Meijer, Price Chopper, Price Rite, Ralphs, Safeway (DC/DE/FL/MD/VA), Save-A-Lot, Shaws, Shoprite, Smart & Final, Smiths, Star, Stater, Stop N Shop, Tops, Various, Walmart (Puerto Rico only), Weis, and Winn Dixie.

In addition, the list of brands included in the recall has been expanded to include Great Value, Market Basket, Kroger, Econo, Sundae Shoppe, Giant Eagle, Lucerne, Purple Cow, Polar Express, Stater, and Food Club. Recalled products include orange cream bars, chocolate coated vanilla ice cream bars, and variety packs that include the chocolate coated vanilla ice cream bars.

Production at the Dunkirk plant has been suspended on this line of products and the FDA is continuing to investigate. Consumers are advised not to eat any of these brands of ice cream bars that have a production date between January 1, 2017, and December 31, 2017. The recalled products’ “best by” date are between January 1, 2018, and December 31, 2018.

In addition, consumers that have had these ice cream bars in their freezer are advised to clean the inside of the freezer with a mild bleach solution to kill any bacteria residue from the packages.
