CDC and numerous countries are exploring several multistate outbreaks of Salmonella infections linked to contact with live poultry in backyard flocks. People may get ill with Salmonella infections from touching live poultry or their surroundings. These birds may be carrying Salmonella germs but look healthy and clean and show no symptoms of illness. A Number of Different Kinds of Salmonella bacteria have made people ill in this epidemic: Salmonella Seftenberg, Salmonella Montevideo, Salmonella Infantis, Salmonella Enteritidis, Salmonella Indiana, and Salmonella Litchfield.
