Kraft Heinz Recalls Breakstone’s Cottage Cheese
The Kraft Heinz company is recalling a specific batch of their Breakstone’s Cottage Cheese due to a possible contamination of plastic and/or metal. In the company press release, it was explained that, “…pieces of red plastic and metal may have been introduced during production. Consumption of hard or sharp foreign material could cause injury to teeth, mouth, throat, stomach or intestine tissue if swallowed.”
The decision for the recall was made after Kraft Heinz was notified by a customer that had found a piece of red plastic in a container of Breakstone’s Cottage Cheese that they had purchased. Currently there are a total of six complaints from consumers, however no illness or injuries have been reported.
Over 9,000 cases of Breakstone’s Cottage Cheese have been recalled with the concern that there could be foreign materials including red plastic or metal in the entire batch. The specific containers that are included in the recall for the presence of red plastic or metal are the following:
- 16-ounce Breakstone’s 2% Milkfat Low-fat Large Curd Cottage Cheese with a date code of Dec. 10, 2019 and date code of “10 DEC 2019 W4 XX:XX 36-2158” and UPC of “0 21000 30053 2.”
- 24-ounce Breakstone’s 4% Milkfat Large Curd Cottage Cheese with a date code of “10 DEC 2019 W4 XX:XX 36-2158 and UPC of “0 21000 12285 1.”
- 24-ounce Breakstone’s 4% Milkfat Small Curd Cottage Cheese with a date code of “10 DEC 2019 W4 XX:XX 36-2158” and UPC of “0 21000 12284 4.”
Customers who have purchased the Breakstone’s Cottage Cheese that is included in the recall are advised to not consume the cottage cheese and return it to the store where it was purchased for a full refund. If there is concern of potential ingesting the foreign material or injury due to consumption of the recalled cottage cheese, contacting a heath professional is strongly recommended.
