On the 10th of August, 2023, Nestle Toll House USA of Arlington, VA issued a voluntary recall of their Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough “break and bake” Bars due to potential presence of foreign substances; pieces of wood. This recall was published a day later, on August 11th, 2023 by the United States Food & Drug Administration (FDA).
According to the release, the recalled Nestle Toll House Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough “break and bake bars” were distributed nationwide to various retailers, between the dates of April 24th and 25th, 2023. Two batches of the weight 16.5 oz. have been recalled; ceasing their production and taken off of shelves. The affected products have Best By Dates of August 22nd, 2023 and October 23rd, 2023 and Batch numbers of 311457531K and 311557534K.
The recall of the afore-described Nestle Toll House Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough batches was reportedly initiated after consumers shared the discovery of wood fragments in the product. No illness or adverse results have been reported as being caused by this issue.
Nestle Toll House shared the following statement, as published by the United States Food & Drug Administration (FDA): “We are working with the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) on this voluntary recall and will cooperate with them fully. We are confident that this is an isolated issue and we have taken action to address. The quality, safety and integrity of our products remain our number one priority. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this action represents to both our consumers and retail customers.” The company also clarified that while this affects two batches of their “bake and break” Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough with the specific codes and Best By Dates listed above, this recall does not involve any of their other products, “… including other varieties of refrigerated cookie dough in “break and bake” bars, rolls, or tubs, or Edible cookie dough.”
