Radhuni Curry Powder Recalled in New York Due to Potential Salmonella Contamination

Radhuni Curry from New Hoque and Sons, Inc. of Maspeth, NY, is being recalled due to potential Salmonella contamination. The Radhuni Curry Powder product was distributed 04/17/2020 through 04/21/2020 in grocery stores throughout New York, New York, including in stores in The Bronx, Jackson Heights, and in Jamaica. The product was officially pulled from shelves on 05/14/2020. All production of Radhuni Curry Powder by New Hoque and Sons, Inc. was stopped after traces of Salmonella were found by the FDA during routine food safety. The FDA is continuing their investigation, though no cases of Salmonella contamination due to the curry powder have been reported as of yet. Customers who purchased the Radhuni Curry Powder are urged to not consume the product; the curry powder can be returned to the store of purchase for a full refund. Concerns and questions about the recall can be answered by the company New Hoque and Sons, Inc. at 718-391-0992 from 9am-5pm EST between weekdays of Monday through Friday.

According to the CDC, Salmonella is a foodborne illness causing bacteria that causes the majority of food poisoning cases in the United States with approximately 1.35 million infections per year. Salmonella contamination symptoms may begin as early as 6 hours and as late as 6 days after consumption, and the illness typically lasts 4-7 days. Symptoms of Salmonella contamination typically present as typical food poisoning symptoms: diarrhea, which may be bloody, fever, and stomach cramps, though some patients have reported symptoms of nausea, vomiting, and headaches. Medical treatment may be necessary for Salmonella contamination in cases with dehydration or a fever of more than 102 degrees Celsius. People with compromised immune systems, such as the elderly, children, and those with weakened immune systems, are at an increased risk for a severe Salmonella infection, such as bloodstream infection. If you believe you are suffering from Salmonella contamination, contact your physician immediately.
