On the 30th of August, 2023, the United States Food & Drug Administration published Todorganic, Inc.’s recall of their Nuez De La India Seeds due to a product mix-up – the product being sold is believed to have been mistakenly replaced with the deadly seeds of the yellow oleander.

The Middleburg, Florida-based company, Todorganic Inc., recalled the product labeled Nuez De La India Seeds after the United States Food & Drug Administration discovered they were in fact, Thevetia peruviana or yellow oleander. According to the National Library of Medicine, National Center for Biotechnology Information, the yellow oleander is known to contain, “…at least eight different cardiac glycosides. All parts of the plant are dangerous, especially the seeds. Ingestion of Oleander seeds or leaves is a common cause of accidental poisoning worldwide, particularly among children. The Oleander has been used for suicide, homicide, abortion and as herbal remedies in India, Thailand, Brazil and elsewhere.” The effects of consuming yellow oleander can cause tremendously negative cardiovascular, gastrointestinal and neurological issues.

Each recalled “Nuez De La India Seeds” bag contains 12 seeds, packaged in 2-ounce white and green foil. On the back of the package, instructions such as the following, can be found: “Do not eat raw. Once a day, at night, before going to bed… After 8 days of use you may increase the daily intake to ¼ of a seed..”

These seeds were distributed nationwide through various platforms, such as Walmart, Amazon and eBay.

If experiencing symptoms such as vomiting, dizziness, nausea, diarrhea, abdominal pain, dysrhythmia or other adverse reactions after consuming the above-listed recalled Todorganic product, individuals should promptly contact their personal healthcare provider and alert the public safety officials.

For a full refund, consumers may return the Todorganic Nuez De La India Seeds to the location of purchase. The United States Food & Drug Administration shared the following number for customers with questions, comments or other concerns.
