Health Department officials began to notice a large spike in salmonella cases in January and through interviews with the victims were able to identify X10 in Texas, or X in Texas, as the probable source. The family owned restaurant is located at 119 Cypress Drive, Dalhart TX. Health officials contacted the restaurant owners as the investigation unfolded, and on February 11th they made the decision to close the restaurant “voluntarily” for a seven day period, noting the closure would be at their own expense. At that time, X10 ownership stated that all environmental testing conducted at the restaurant had been negative.
During the closure, however, the employees were also asked to provide stool tests, and on February 18th the X10 owners stated: “The restaurant has been checked and cleared of any health issues. However, the Health Department did receive positive results from some of our employees and we are following the Health Department’s guidelines. This includes antibiotics and not returning to work until they have tested negative on two separate occasions.” The restaurant was reopened at 11 a.m. on Thursday, February 19th.
During the month of January, the X10 performed maintenance and upgrades to kitchen equipment. At times during the upgrades, it operated with limited hours. It remains to be determined if this work, a sick employee, or some other factor played a significant role in the introduction of salmonella into the restaurant kitchen.
X10 Salmonella Lawyer Ron Simon is representing victims in this outbreak. “In outbreaks like this,” says Simon, whose office is headquartered in Houston, “it’s important to understand the community. Dalhart is a close knit community, and the X10 is a part of the fabric of the community. We will work closely with the health department and the families to see to it that the public health threat is over and that those victims of the outbreak are able to put this behind them as soon as possible.” If you or a loved one ate at the X10 and became sick, call one of the Dalhart Salmonella Lawyers at Ron Simon & Associates at 1-888-335-4901 or 713-335-4837.
