11 Individuals Reported Sick at Chipotle located in Aurora, CO
Yet again, Chipotle customers report back with illness received at the restaurant. Over a dozen cases of food poisoning have been reported from Chipotle consumers dating from May 1st to May 15th 2021. The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) is currently collaborating with the Tri- County Health Department to thoroughly investigate a suspected food-poisoning outbreak from Chipotle. This franchise is located at 6710 S Cornerstar Way.
While 5 of the ill individuals were from the local tennis team, according to local reporting, the remaining 6 are the Ryan family, who experienced awful symptoms such as diarrhea, vomiting, abdominal pain and low-grade fevers. After immediately reporting the illness to Chipotle, the Ryan’s weren’t impressed with their response. According to Jeff Ryan, the father of the ill family, “The restaurant itself didn’t seem overly concerned. They said ‘yeah, somebody will get back to you.’ I tried calling their corporate office and you can’t talk to anyone, they direct you to their website.” The affected individuals are disappointed in the Aurora, CO Chipotle’s response and want other consumers to be aware of the risk and lack of professionalism.
The victims’ symptoms appear to be consistent with viral gastroenteritis, which is commonly found to be caused by Norovirus. According to one National Food Poisoning Lawyer, Ron Simon, who has handled many food poisoning cases against Chipotle over the years, regarding Norovirus:
“While most of these symptoms are not life-threatening, victims must be aware of dehydration. Diarrhea and vomiting result in dramatic fluid loss, which quickly becomes dangerous, especially for young children and the elderly. In rare cases, long-term gastroenteritis can result.”
While the individuals taken ill due to Chipotle have all appear to be puling through with no long-term affects, one 8-year-old Ryan girl was rushed to the urgent care with severe dehydration. Her prognosis has not yet been announced.
On behalf of the Ryan’s, FOX31 reached out to Chipotle in Aurora, CO., and received the following statement; “The health and safety of our employees and guests is our greatest priority. We have reached out to the two families that dined at our Aurora restaurant on South Cornerstar and at this time, we have not received any other guest complaints regarding this matter.”
