Morrisons Recalls 10 Market Street Living Herb Products for Listeria Concern
Morrisons, the fourth largest chain supermarket in the United Kingdom, has voluntarily recalled 10 of its products from their Market Street Living Herbs line for fear of their possible adulteration with listeria monocyogenes.
The flavorful Morrisons herbs in question include any of the following Market Street Living Herbs brand products purchased between March 3 and March 9, 2020:
- Living Thyme
- Living Parsley
- Living Mint
- Living Flat Parsley
- Living Dill
- Living Coriander
- Large Living Coriander
- Living Chives
- Living Basil
- Large Living Basil
Morrisons put out a statement saying, “We apologize for the inconvenience this may cause and assure customers of our continuing commitment to the highest standard of product quality and safety.” In the same statement, they assured consumers that “No other products are affected by this issue”. They also announced that a notice about the recall will be posted in their retail stores.
Listeria monocytogenes, a type of bacteria which is most commonly spread through contaminated food or drink, can cause gastrointestinal illness known as listeriosis. Listeriosis is potentially harmful to certain groups of people with weakened immune systems such as the elderly, newborns, or children in utero. The symptoms of listeriosis generally present themselves within 1 to 4 weeks of consumption of the contaminated food or drink. However, in some cases, symptoms have not presented themselves for up to 70 days. The most common symptoms of invasive Listeriosis are stomach cramps, fever, headache, fatigue, and stiff neck.
The recall of these products is only a precautionary measure, as it has not yet been confirmed whether or not they have all been contaminated. Consumers who have purchased any of the Market Street Living Herbs products provided above, within the given dates, should return them to their place of purchase for a full refund. It is not necessary to provide a receipt for the proof of purchase, in order to return the recalled items.
