Supreme Service Solutions LLC, doing business as Supreme Produce, has announced a significant recall of various produce items sold in Kroger stores across five states due to potential Listeria monocytogenes (“Listeria”) contamination. Listeria is a bacterium that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections, particularly in vulnerable populations such as young children, pregnant women, the elderly, and individuals with compromised immune systems.
Background
Routine testing by the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (MDARD) uncovered the risk of Listeria contamination.
The affected items were sold in Kroger grocery stores in Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Missouri, and Ohio.
This recall is linked to a previous alert issued by Wiers Farm, Inc. as previously reported by Food Poisoning News.

Consumer Action
Kroger said the affected products should be beyond their shelf life and no longer available for sale. However, consumers should search their homes for the affected products.
As with all food recalls, the items should not be consumed even if they smell or look safe to eat.
Consumers are advised to throw away any recalled products immediately.
Consumers with additional questions or comments can call Kroger at 800-576-4377 from Monday through Friday, 7am to 12am EST or Saturday through Sunday, from 7am to 9:30pm EST.
Health Risks
As of now, no illnesses or injuries connected with the recalled products have been reported.
Listeriosis, the infection caused by Listeria monocytogenes, is particularly dangerous for certain vulnerable populations. Pregnant individuals, people aged 65 or older, and those with weakened immune systems are at highest risk. Symptoms can include fever, muscle aches, headache, stiff neck, confusion, loss of balance, and convulsions, sometimes preceded by gastrointestinal symptoms. In pregnant individuals, listeriosis can lead to miscarriages, stillbirths, premature delivery, or life-threatening infections in newborns.
Anyone experiencing symptoms of Listeriosis should contact their healthcare provider immediately.
Commenting on this story, one national Listeria lawyer said, “This incident shows that routine sampling is very effective in identifying the potential risk of foodborne contamination before they have a larger impact. However, any consumer who believes they are experiencing symptoms of Listeria infection should contact their medical provider for treatment right away.”
