AMB Food Inc. has issued a recall of their Mixed Munch Regular and Honey BBQ product, due to allergy concerns.
On May 24, the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) published the recall of Pop a Nosh brand Mixed Munch Regular and Honey BBQ product due to it containing pretzels, while simultaneously failing to declare itself as containing the wheat allergen.
“People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to wheat run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products,” the FDA recall stated.
For identification, the company, AMB Food Inc. shared that the recalled Mixed Munch Regular and Honey BBQ product was packaged in clear, 8 ounce bags, with “the product name and flavor prominently displayed on the front.” The brand name is Pop a Nosh.
According to the FDA’s report, when it was first discovered that the product contained pretzels without the correct disclaimer of wheat, AMB Food Inc. ceased production and alerted the FDA.
Allergic reactions to wheat can be serious, and sometimes deadly. According to the American College of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology, indications of an adverse reaction to what may look like “stomach cramps, diarrhea, other gastrointestinal symptoms, hives, rashes, sneezing, headaches,” and in severe cases, Anaphylaxis, “a potentially life-threatening reaction that can impair breathing and send the body into shock.” It is imperative to immediately contact a healthcare professional if experiencing such symptoms, particularly after consumption of wheat.
If in possession of the Pop a Nosh brand Mixed Munch Regular and Honey BBQ, customers with wheat allergies are strongly advised to avoid consumption of the product, and to either discard it or return to the location of purchase for a full refund.
