A recall first initiated in June 2024 by Lipari Foods Operating Company, LLC for a number of pre-packaged sandwiches due to potential contamination with Salmonella remains ongoing. Salmonella is a bacterium that can cause serious infections, especially in vulnerable populations such as young children, the elderly, and individuals with compromised immune systems.
Background
The company has not yet said how the potential presence of Salmonella was discovered or what specifically led to the voluntary recall of the affected products.
The recalled products were distributed to a number of states, including: Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Maryland, Michigan, Missouri, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Virginia, West Virginia, and Wisconsin.

Consumer Advisory
The company did not issue a press release for the recall of these potentially contaminated sandwiches. However, with all food recalls, consumers are advised to not consume the affected products, even if they smell or look safe to eat.
Consumers are always advised to dispose of any recalled product immediately and thoroughly sanitize any surface, container, or material that may have come into contact.
Health Risks
The company has not reported if any illnesses or adverse reactions have been reported in connection with these products. However, consumers who have been exposed to the recalled products and are experiencing symptoms of Salmonella food poisoning should contact their healthcare provider immediately.
Salmonella is a bacterium that can cause severe gastrointestinal illness in humans. Symptoms typically include diarrhea, fever, and stomach cramps, appearing six hours to six days after exposure to the bacteria. While most people recover without specific treatment, the infection can be severe, especially for young children, the elderly, and individuals with weakened immune systems.
This is not the first recall associated with Premo brand sandwiches. In 2018, Food Poisoning News reported on a recall of Premo turkey & cheese wedge sandwiches due to potential Listeria contamination. In 2020, the parent company issued a voluntary recall for a number of packaged sandwiches meant for retail sale also due to potential Listeria contamination.
Commenting on this new story, one national Salmonella lawyer said, “Because the company did not issue a press release, many consumers may not be aware of this recall. Any consumer with the recalled sandwiches should throw them away immediately.”
