E. coli O145 Outbreak in the United Kingdon Attributed to Contaminated Lettuce At least 256 victims have been identified (a small portion of the number of suspected illness) in an outbreak of Shiga toxin-producing E. coli O145 (STEC) that has hospitalized at least 86 consumers. The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, know as the CDC, has now identified 2 carriers of a new drug-resistant variant to the flu. This is significant because, while variants are very common (the flu is constantly mutating), there are only a handful of protocols for defeating the onset and severity of the flu, one of which is oseltamivir phosphate, aka Tamiflu. 162 Salmonella Africana and 158 Salmonella Braenderup illnesses across much of the United States (at least 25 states). As many as three quarters of the victims in the Africana outbreak recall eating cucumbers during the incubation period. This outbreak has been linked to Florida grown cucumbers, and has hospitalized more than 50.
