Better safe than sorry, as the saying goes. California based Taylor Farms has issued a recall on onions that were used by McDonald’s recently. According to the CDC, at least 49 confirmed cases, including 10 hospitalizations and one death, have been linked to Quarter Pounders and other foods at McDonald’s. likely due to contaminated onions. The CDC reported yesterday, this outbreak appears limited to about a dozen states:

“In the Contaminated Food Section, CDC added a list of states where McDonald’s removed slivered onions and beef patties. States: Colorado, Kansas, Utah, Wyoming, and portions of Idaho, Iowa, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico, and Oklahoma”

According to ABC News, the recall issued to its customers stated, in past, “Our records show that affected product may have been sent to your location. It is urgent that you stop using affected product as soon as possible.”

Among the onions included in the recall were 30 lb bags of peeled jumbo yellow onions; 4-5 lb bags of 3/8 inch diced onions; 5 lb bags of fresh diced onions, as well as 5 lb bags of peeled yellow onions.

Two McDonald’s E. Coli lawsuits Filed by E. coli Lawyer Ron Simon – So Far.

In the last two days, food safety attorney Ron Simon has filed both national lawsuits against McDonalds, one on behalf of a man from Colorado, and the other on behalf of a woman from Nebraska. He stated in an interview that his firm represents at least 15 families, but that the number of clients is growing by the our.

The ABC report also noted that the CDC expects the number of victims to increase in the coming days.
