Recall Issued on Capri Sun Products Due to Potential Chemical Contamination

After several customers complained of a chemical taste in Capri Suns, parent company Kraft Heinz issued a voluntary recall on a batch of Capri Sun Wild Cherry Flavored Juice Drink Blend beverages. The potential contamination is exclusively limited to the Wild Cherry flavor and the company assures the public that no other flavors have been affected. The 5,760 cases of product has a “Best When Used By” date of June 25, 2023, a UPC code on the cartons of 0 8768400100 4, and a UPC code on the individual pouches of 87684 00409 00. The company believes a small amount of diluted cleaning chemicals ended up in the Wild Cherry Capri Suns batch accidentally. No illnesses have currently been reported due to ingesting the Capri Suns. Customers who have purchased one of the affected products are advised not to consume the product, and to return it to the store of original purchase. Kraft Heinz is currently contacting all distributors and retailers in an effort to track down all contaminated product. To receive a reimbursement or confirm you have purchased the recalled product, Kraft Heinz can be contacted Monday through Friday from 9 am to 6pm EST at 1-800-280-8252.

The factory uses a Clean-in-Place system to sanitize the food production lines without disassembling the machinery. Clean-in-Place (CIP) systems are an automated cleaning service used to efficiently and effectively clean production lines without the risk for human error. CIP utilizes caustic detergents such as Sodium hydroxide, acids, sanitizer/disinfectants, and sterilizers. If ingested, CIP chemicals may cause chemical burns in the mouth and throat. If you have ingested CIP chemicals, it is not necessary to induce vomiting; rather it is advised to immediately rinse your mouth with water, drink plenty of water, and seek medical attention.
